OSAP – You Earned It (60)

MUSIC

 

Music plays throughout spot.

BEDROOM SCENE

We open inside a kids bedroom where we see a young girl (aged 6) laying in her bed.

Her dark hair cascades over the edge of the bed. Suddenly mom walks in and gently rustles her hair. The mom walks off camera towards the bedroom window.

Mom: Mikayla! Common sweetheart, rise and shine.

Daughter looks up at mom. Groggy and groans.

KITCHEN SCENE

We cut into the kitchen where we see the dad cooking on the stovetop and mom preparing a meal on the counter.

The daughter (aged 6) walks into the kitchen and sees the smoke coming out of the toast machine.

Daughter: Dad! The toast is burning.

 

Dad: Oh!

Dad quickly comes over to the toast machine and pops out the burnt toast.

HALLWAY SCENE (SUNSCREEN)

We cut to a hallway where the daughter (aged 6) is getting ready to go to school with her backpack on and is running down the hallway.

As the daughter is running, mom is chasing from behind with a bottle of sunscreen in her hands.

Mom:  Wait, wait, wait. We gotta put your sunscreen on.

The daughter stops running and groans as the mom applies sunscreen onto her arm.

HALLWAY SCENE (BOOTS)

Cut to another hallway scene, where the season has changed to winter.

The mother is getting the daughter (aged 6) ready for school. The daughter is bundled up in a sweater and snowpants sitting on a chair while the mom is struggling to put on the daughter’s winter boot.

As mom and daughter are getting ready, the dad leaves the house in a hurry and shuts the front door. A frenzy of wind and snow breezes into the hallway.

The daughter whines.

Daughter: I don’t wanna go.

SCHOOL BUS SCENE

We cut to inside a school bus. The camera travels towards the dad sitting on the bus, moving past rows of kids exploding with energy. He’s shell-shocked as he sits chaperoning his daughter (aged 6) school field trip. His daughter and her classmates are throwing paper and shouting.

Dad: Ok, settle down. Don’t throw that.

PRINCIPAL OFFICE SCENE

We cut to see the principal leading a disappointed dad into her office for his daughter’s misdeeds. The daughter (aged 12) is standing up by the principal’s desk and the dad walks towards her.

Dad: What have you done?

The principal closes the door and walks towards her desk and says:

Principal: Have a seat.

The daughter hands over her cellphone to her dad and both and take a seat on the chairs.

SCIENCE SCENE

We cut to a shot outside the home at night toward the kitchen window.

We cut inside to a close up of the daughter (aged 12) fast asleep face down at the kitchen table. Dad is stuck cutting out bubble letters for a Science Fair Presentation Board. Mom comes in from behind and wakes her up.

Mom: It’s time to go to bed my sweetheart.

Daughter looks up. Exhausted.

BEDROOM SCENE

We match cut to our daughter (aged 17) laying on her bed in the same position on screen as the kitchen table scene. She’s on her iPhone and wearing headphones, listening to music.

Mom bursts through the door in the background and unplugs her headphone from the iPhone.

Before leaving, the mom picks up a textbook and throws it on the bed.

Mom: Homework!

The daughter gets frustrated at the mom.

 

Daughter: Mom!

The mom and daughter have an argument.

Mom: Don’t mom me!

COMPUTER SCENE

We cut to see the daughter (aged 17) and dad sitting on the computer desk. The mom walks toward them and stands beside the dad.

Mom: How’s it going?

Cut to a close up of the computer screen clearly displaying the OSAP online application form. Dad holds a piece of financial looking paper, giving information to his daughter as she types it in.

Cut to a close up of the daughter looking hopeful and smiling.

GRADUTAION SCENE

We cut to inside the school gymnasium on Graduation night. We see the girl (aged 17) on stage receiving her diploma and raising her arms upwards.

The camera moves from behind the daughter into the cheering crowd and zooms in towards her proud parents.

Mom is clapping and dad is recording her Graduation. Parents are smiling and cheering their daughter on.

DORM SCENE

We cut to a shot of a hallway dorm. We see students moving into their dorm rooms.

Camera zooms into the mom and dad. Mom and daughter (aged 17) give each other hugs.

Mom closes the dorm door and both mom and dad look at each other smiling. As this is happening, we hear a voiceover.

VO: You worked hard to get your child into university or college.

 

VO: Now, with the new OSAP, there’s more help than ever to pay for it.

We transition to the final white screen with the black stripes, logos, and supers.
