How to Request an Appeal of a Negative Decision – Published January 25 2023

Narrator: This video shows how to submit an appeal of a negative decision in SADIE, the Special Authorization Digital Information Exchange, to the Exceptional Access Program, when additional relevant clinical information is available for a drug and indication that is publicly funded upon authorization by the EAP. All persons in this demonstration are fictional.

Select the Menu and then click on the View Submitted link. The Submitted Requests screen displays. In the Submitted Requests with Ministry Decision list, if a decision for a request is ‘Not Approved’, and you wish to submit an appeal, select the View button.

The Submission Details, Correspondence in Progress and Correspondence Exchanged with the Ministry display. Click Download. Documents that have been downloaded are automatically saved to your computer and can be found in your Downloads folder.

Click on the PDF file to view the document, in this case the Response letter, which opens in a separate window.

Select the main tab to return to the Submission Details screen. Click the Add Appeal button.

The Appeal screen displays, with three tabs. On the Summary tab, confirm that the practice location details are correct. If the wrong practice location was selected, or you need to update information, select the Change or update practice location button. If appropriate, click the checkbox to indicate the practice location details are correct. Click Next.

On the Appeal tab, provide the supplementary details in support of the appeal. Text must be entered in the Appeal Details text field, and/or one or more documents must be attached in the Attachments field. In the text field, you can type information, or you can paste text that has been copied.

Select the ellipsis button and click on Attachments. Click Choose, then select the document, then click Open. Select Upload and categorize the attachment if desired. Click Done.  Add other attachments if necessary. Click Next.

On the Review tab, review the appeal information that can be submitted. If the appeal is not ready to submit, click the Save button and the Appeal request will move to the Requests in Progress list on the Home screen, to be updated and submitted at a later date.

Prescribers and delegates view a Submit button and designates view a Send to Prescriber button. When a designate clicks the Send to Prescriber button, the Appeal request will move to the Requests Ready to Submit list on the Home screen, for the prescriber or their delegates to review and submit to the EAP.

As a prescriber or delegate, click the Submit button. The Submitting Terms and Conditions display. If in agreement, click Accept. The Appeal request has been submitted to the EAP. If desired, click the Download/Print Request link to view the Appeal request that has been submitted.

Alternatively, you can click the Download button to view the submitted appeal request, or you can view the Appeal request anytime on the View submitted screen by selecting the Menu, then View submitted.
